Barking Rocks Winery Camping via Harvest Hosts: You’ll Have a Howl of a Great Time

by Sheen Watkins

For starters, our Barking Rocks Winery camping via Harvest Hosts was a howl of a great time. In this case, our great time includes a night in our camper in a big, open field under Texas’ big skies. Soft light at greeted us at sunset. An almost full moon beamed down through our big window at bedtime. Then, we woke to a big, bold sunrise.

We’re sharing our overall experience at Barking Rocks Winery located in Granbury, Texas.

But let’s back up for a minute. My hubby and I spend three to four months a year camping with our two fur kids. With our nuCamp Tab 400 Boondock, it’s game on for adventures! Living in Michigan, our camping season starts in March with multi-week camping trips until late October.

Our camping journey this trip includes stop overs from Michigan to Arizona for sure. Hopefully Death Valley if time permits. Our first Harvest Host stopover of the season includes a night at Barking Rocks Winery camping, relaxing and escaping.

Barking Rocks Winery Camping: Arriving & Settling In

Located in Granbury, Texas, Siri served reliable directions to Barking Rocks. Upon arrival Tiberia and Ripple met us with big smiles and vibrant barks. We received a personal escort to an open field right next to the vineyard. Setup was a breeze in the fast, level grassy field.

Ti let us know where to park to optimize the sunrise view for the morning. He took time (on his birthday) to ensure we were happy and comfortable as we settled in.

With room to roam, I enjoyed walking the property seeing their rustic art and collectibles gathered over the course of time. Natural gardens of cacti, native Texas trees, grasses reflected what’s expected in North Central Texas terrain.

As Real as It Gets: The Wine Experience

Such a gracious host and sweet spirit! He inquired of my hubby which bottle he would drink this evening. If white, he was going to go to the chiller. Since my hubby drinks reds, we were all set. Dave purchased the Merlot (it’s already half gone as I write this) and a bottle of crisp, young white wine.

His attention to detail goes hand in hand with the calming and relaxing ambience. The location is in a quiet neighborhood and Tiberia knows everyone! When we were leaving, many of his neighbors stopped by on their rout to offer a friendly hello and good morning to Ti. Salt of the earth, what life is all about. Good friends, making new ones, sharing stories and knowledge.

We appreciate the Barking Rocks Winery camping and wine experience. Even more so, Tiberia’s generosity in sharing the history of the land and vineyard. Another enjoyable Harvest Hosts memory along our journey.
